Beautiful Beach Photography By Marina Vernicos
Maybe it's because the sun has been out over the weekend or maybe it's because I've been researching honeymoon destinations (sorry, ladies, I am indeed spoken for. I know you'll both be relieved), but I thought now would be a good time to resurrect this collection of photos.
I saw these last Autumn, but was reminded of the photography style when I saw a colleague's drone footage on Instagram today. These bird's eye beach shots are the work of Greek photographer Marina Vernicos. She's world famous, studied at Yale and has had worked featured in the Louvre and galleries from New York to Korea.
This series shows everything you feel about going to the beach: the inviting appeal of the water, the welcome relief of the parasol's shade and that unnerving feeling of hyper-awareness that it's a bit weird that a group of people who don't know each other all head towards the shore and lie facing outwards often within each other's personal space. All sweaty and covered in sand in sore bits of chaffed joints. A bit of sand in your mouth when you go to take a sip of your drink.
Bit shit really, aren't they?
These pictures are the best way to enjoy a beach. Check out the full collection and Vernicos' other work on her website.
