Some nice reading material...
It's nice when you go out in pubs and bars in Manchester and are able to pick up some really nice looking magazines and free papers. I can't remember which place I found these in but it had a good jukebox and three Scrabble games to use; that's the makings of the perfect pub, if you ask me.
The City Talking is a free newspaper which reports on the current cultural issues and events in Manchester. There was a particularly good feature on Ben Oldham, who runs the Instagram account @TurfAndWhiteLine, who is focussed on capturing the things that made us all fall in love with football in the first place. This has some similar themes to a project in the pipeline with a good friend, which should be available this summer, all being well.
Crack is decent too, a music magazine offering things like reviews of albums and gigs to an interview with Freddie Gibbs.
Last but certainly not least is The Skinny, a culture and lifestyle mag covering Manchester and Liverpool's respective best offerings. The current issue features their 2016 'Food and Drink Survey' and covers some places that are popular with plenty of the friends of thingandwhere (such as The Grapes pub in Liverpool). I was especially pleased to see a shoutout to Katsouris on Deansgate; a place I take in with my dad whenever I get chance to go into town and meet him on his dinner hour. Head there for massive butties that are class.
Look out for all three publications and get more out of your time in the city.
(P.S. these mags were picked up on a day out that Bharat was a part of but he left us early to go and have a French meal with a girl. He hasn't been heard of since. We hope it went well.)
